I when I was a little girl I always said that I wanted to be a judge and that’s because I thought that a judge was someone who got to boss people around. And as the youngest of three that was very attractive. And now that I’m here I love it. My name is Derbigny Willis I’m a 1L at LSU Law school. Law school has totally changed the way I think about everything. It’s pervaded my personal life, my social life, everything. Now when I see a show about the law or like “Law and Order” I try and analyze it and see, is that is that really the way things go on? is that really how it happens in the real world? And then I hear, you know, my professors, you know, do they really know, is that it is that correct the way they said that? Is that really the way to analyze the problem? It’s definitely seeped its way into all aspects of my life, but that’s the beauty of it because that’s what law school does for you. It changes the way you think. It gives you a whole new paradigm of thinking. It’s not just knowledge that you’re gaining, it’s a whole new skill set. I think LSU Law school is incredibly valuable because it’s a comparative law school. You learn the common law. You learn the civil law. But being in Louisiana, you learn so much more about the common law and the civil law by learning how to compare and contrast the both. If I could do it all over again I would absolutely choose to study law in Louisiana because you have that kind of opportunity that’s afforded to you. Whereas in other schools you just learn common law or, you know, in Europe maybe you’re just learning the civil law. Here, it’s unique, it’s different and that’s the kind of education that I wanted. LSU is the school that’s going to challenge you, it’s going to provide you the most opportunities upon graduation, and LSU has a great broad network that extends past Louisiana. I mean it is the right law school for me.
