In a sudden decision, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has appointed Indian origin Rishi Sunak as the next Finance Minister. Boris Johnson made this sudden announcement on 13th February 2020 as he wanted to reshuffle ministerial positions such as Finance, Health, etc. This is why he elected Sunak as the new Finance Minister. Prior to him, Pakistani-origin Sajid Javid was the Finance Minister of UK. However due to tension between him and PM Boris Johnson, Javid resigned. Sunak worked under former Finance Minister Javid and now after his resignation has now replaced him. The 39-year old is married to the daughter of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy. He will have to hit the ground running as the UK Budget is due to be tabled next month. Traditionally in the UK, the Prime Minister and Finance Minister work very closely together. In the UK government, the first most important position is of the PM and the second is the Finance Minister.
