Gov. McAuliffe on SALPAL & Importance of State and Local Government

First time that has ever happened in U.S. history. Federal Government took action. The States said we’re not going to accept this. And so, a bunch of us, about ten Democratic Governors, and our States were so big, that we actually were now the biggest country in the world in basically our complying with the Paris Agreement So, you’re right. It’s Immigration, it’s Climate Change, It’s all of these different issues. And I want to commend Georgetown for this whole State and Local. Because I’ve made this point for a long time: No offense to Congress If you watch me on TV, I’m not a fan of Congress Nothing gets done in Washington anymore. It is total gridlock. Gerrymandering has destroyed democracy in this country They do absolutely nothing. The incubators of ideas and innovation are in the 50 States And that’s where it’s all happening. Not only on the legal side But all of the sides. Education. Healthcare. We run healthcare programs. You know, we run education. It’s not the Federal government. We run it. And that’s why I’m glad you’re having this seminar, that you’re having this course at Georgetown, because this is where if you really want to make a change in life, no offense, and I know some of you probably work in Congress, I’d go work at a State because you work at a State and you can actually push the ball and actually get something done
