Hello and kaliméra [kah-lee-MEH-rah] from Washington, D.C. My name is Marie Royce, and I’m the Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs. On behalf of the U.S. Department of State, I join you in celebrating the 70th anniversary… …of the binational agreement to establish the United States Educational Foundation– and the Fulbright program in Greece. As a former business executive and educator – – I have firsthand experience of the importance of exchanges like the Fulbright program. I am particularly excited to mark the 70th anniversary of the Fulbright program in Greece, the oldest Fulbright program in Europe, and the second-oldest in the world. Since 1948, more than 5,500 Greeks and Americans have participated in a Fulbright exchange and have gone on to serve as leaders in their fields. Congratulations to all of you who have worked – to make the program such a tremendous success over the past seven decades. Here’s to our next 70 years as great friends, partners, and allies. Thank you!
